Accommodations

Students participating in the Berlin Summer Study Abroad live with families during their stay. You will have your own room, with access to living areas, such as the living room, kitchen, and bathroom.

The home-stay experience is oftentimes cited as the highlight of students’ Berlin experience. Students often develop close relationships with their families, which continue even after their return to the US. You will have your own room, with access to living areas, such as the living room, kitchen, and bathroom.

Full cultural and linguistic immersion is an important part of our program and staying with a host family will offer great opportunities to speak German outside of our classes and to learn about the ways in which Germans live on a day-to-day basis.

“My host mother and I got along very well, even though we couldn’t understand each other for a while. She would often times recommend me places to see or visit during my short stay in Berlin. She showed a great amount of hospitality! When I arrived, she had already printed out a sheet of how to get around the city. She invited me to eat with her family and would often invite me on the porch to drink coffee with her. My host Mom told me I could come back whenever I wanted. Needless to say I have a home away from home!”

“Coming to Berlin I had no expectation of my host family. Everyone is different and I thought regardless I will have an interesting experience. I became very attached to my host family and really grew to love them as my own family. I am still in contact with them today, sending emails, and making plans to meet up in the future. The first day they took me to a bakery and treated me to a German breakfast. (Which if you have never experienced this before I would suggest going on this trip just for that!) The next day they showed me around the area and helped me find my way to Inlingua.”
